Stage Management Internship

Experience Theatre Project Theater is currently accepting Stage Management Intern applications for Summer 2018. Applications must be received by May1, 2018.

As an intern in Experience Theatre Project’s Production department, you will be joining an incredibly talented group of designers, craftspeople, and technicians.


Together, the Production Management, Stage Management, Scenic, Props, and Costumes departments execute the vision of the director for our big summer production of a female-empowered Taming of the Shrew in 2018. Our production and design departments look forward to further innovation in the coming years with the opening of Beaverton’s state-of-the-art Arts Center in 2020.

ETP’s Stage Management Internship offers a unique, hands-on, professional experience. ETP productions require all of the organizational and technical skills required of even the most experienced stage manager. Casts range from seasoned, professional actors to college students. This intern will work directly with our production stage manager and will be considered as an integral part of the Stage Management Team. This internship offers valuable experience working at Beaverton’s only professional theater company and provide the chance to work directly with experienced Directors, Designers, and Performers. In addition, Experience Theatre Project Interns will receive a small stipend as part of their production duties for the summer show. Other benefits include the opportunity to build professional relationships and work with professional artists, receive one-on-one mentoring from the Stage Management team, and receive a resume and portfolio review with ETP Staff.

The Stage Management Intern must be available for all rehearsals for assigned show.  The Intern is expected to be present for pre-production, all rehearsals, techs, and preview performances.  This is typically a 4 day/week commitment with rehearsal hours that typically span from 6pm-9pm  prior to tech rehearsals.

Internship Responsibilities

  • Assist the stage manager during the rehearsal and performance process of a production

  • Set up rehearsal spaces and maintain the rehearsal environment

  • Work closely with the technical department, production director and artistic director

  • Opportunity to work with Scenic and Costume departments

  • Help maintain databases, calendars, and production records

  • Assist on any special projects on an as-needed basis

  • Assist with production during the run of the show, which is paid by stipend


Desired Skills and Experience

  • Stage Management experience

  • Minimum 1 year of undergraduate education

  • Effective and clear communication skills

  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of people

  • Some technical theater experience

  • Detail-oriented and organized

  • Computer proficiency, especially in Google Docs and Microsoft Office

  • Willingness to learn and work as part of a team
