Assistant Stage Manager
An Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) supports the Stage Manager by handling backstage and rehearsal tasks such as managing props, coordinating quick changes for actors, maintaining paperwork like run sheets, ensuring the stage is clean, and communicating with the crew to guarantee a smooth production. ASMs also run the deck during tech rehearsals and performances, prepare the rehearsal space, assist with costume care, and provide an extra layer of support for the stage manager and the production's overall execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and distribute various reports, tracking sheets, and props lists.
Organize backstage prop areas
Assist with setting up the rehearsal space and taping out the ground plan
Act as a placeholder for absent actors or run lines with other actors
Run the deck during tech rehearsals and performances, managing the deck crew and tracking scenic pieces and prop movements
Coordinate prop handoffs during performances.
Ensure the stage floor is clean and swept before and after rehearsals and performances
Serve as a liaison between the Stage Manager, crew, designers, and actors
Communicate show notes and any issues to the Stage Manager
Help with the preparation of rehearsal halls and performance spaces
Assist wardrobe with quick changes and minor costume repairs, as needed
Skills Required:
At least one year of stage management experience, either as an SM or ASM
A foundational understanding of theatre production elements, such as props, sets, and costumes.
Professionalism and punctuality.
